It’s that time of year again… tis the season to shop! The holidays are about spending time with love ones and giving gifts to show you care. Unfortunately, finding a gift this time of year can be, stressful. Let’s face it holiday shopping is not for the weak. Consequently, sitting through traffic, roaming for parking spot and fighting your way through the crowds can be quite chaotic. No one should have to put themselves through the turmoil of shopping and thankfully there’s an alternative, online shopping! If you prefer shopping in retails stores we applaud you, but the reality is online shopping is more cost efficient and effective for most consumers. Still not convinced? We’ve listed some of the reasons why online shopping is the “better” alternative

  • Retailers offer better deals online since costs to conduct a sale is lower
  • Great place to find products that are being liquidated
  • Purchasers can send gifts directly to the intended recipient
  • No pressure. Consumers are freed from the pressure of sales associates
  • Hard to find items are more likely to be found
  • It’s easier to compare products and product features
  • Sites like PriceGrabber.com help shoppers find the cheapest prices and features product reviews from other customers
  • Many sites wave tax and/or shipping fees to entice shoppers to purchase at their site

Taking advantage of the many benefits of online shopping has it price, not every site is trustworthy, follow our simple tips to ensure a safe and stress free online shopping experience.

  • Shield yourself from online predators- Cyber scoundrels take advantage of online shoppers and implant viruses that affects the operation of users computer and/or steal financial data information. Guard yourself-doing so can you a lot of future time and agony  install a anti virus system such as CyberDefender’s, Antivirus/Antispyware software
  • Thieves are quite skilled and make realistic sites to lure shoppers, be sure to check if the online site is authentic by checking the reputation of the business on sites such as the, Better Business Bureau (www.bbbonline.org)
  • If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Be realistic about the product and the asking price compare to other retailers
  • Review the terms of service/use, privacy policy and refund policy
  • Be cautious of phishing. Company’s do not send e-mails asking customers to resend their financial information
  • Pay with a credit card– under federal law consumers can dispute charges. If there are fraudulent charges made to a consumers’ credit card the shopper is not liable for the charges
  • Keep communication with online stores in case there are any disputes in the future
  • Check your credit/banking statement regularly to ensure that no suspicious charges have been made
  • Never wire money! It’s the oldest trick in the book. If you run into a site that only collects money by wiring they’re bad news
